Barcelona bound
We’re off to FESPA Digital which kicks off in Barcelona tomorrow (21-24 February 2012) which promises to be fantastic event for anybody thinking of investing in wide format digital inkjet printing this year. If you’re going, here’s a quick look at some key highlights of what you can expect from your visit. For those with sustainability and the environment in mind FESPA says it has put sustainable printing at the top of its agenda for printers wishing to attend its many and varied seminars and conferences over the course of the week. With many live print production events taking place at the show, FESPA’s Print Shop Live looks like it will be well worth a visit if you’re wondering how you can best integrate wide format into your existing workflow. I shall be making a beeline for the Fujifilm booth where they will be demonstrating their latest colour control software designed to ensure consistent colour across multiple print processes such as screen, offset and digital presses. This is an absolute must if wide format printing is to really take off in the graphics arena and I am sure that this will also be of particular interest to GDW contributor Gareth Ward. And just in case you haven’t heard already, Mimaki is making its move into latex ink print production technology with the launch of two JV400-LX wide format printers among a wealth of other new product launches such as the superfast 150m2 per hour Mimaki TS500-1800 textile printer. You can rest assured that we will be bringing you all the latest from the Mimaki booth as further information begins to unfold. Another company that is no stranger to the graphics sector is Agfa who are always worth keeping an eye on, and this year the company is using FESPA Digital to showcase its latest entry-level flatbed printer, the M2540 FB. We will be taking a good long look at this new devise and will be sure to tell you what we think. On the flip side we plan to take a closer look at some of the finishing systems available for wide format printing and no visit to FESPA will be complete without checking out the latest launch from the Heidelberg of the wide format finishing sector Zund and its latest range of S3 cutting tables which is aimed at smaller footprint wide format finishing. And that’s just a tiny taster of what will be on my list of things to do at FESPA Digital in Barcelona this week. Social media will of course be in full swing while we’re at the show and if you aren't planning to go and want up to the minute news, but haven’t yet figured out how to use Twitter, now might be a good time to get some practice in. Just be sure to add @GDWtweets to your list of people to follow and remember to use the #hashtag system to follow what’s going on from everybody during the show. For example, the official hash tag for the FESPA show is #FESPA and you can bet your bottom dollar that #wideformat will see plenty of use too. All you need do to follow these two hash tags is to type them into your Twitter search box and save each as a separate search. #wideformat is pretty much the be de facto standard for the wide format sector so this is a good a habit to develop if you want to follow what’s going on from all the trade media and key industry players. Our bags are packed, the new business cards printed, and with passports poised, we’re ready for the off. See you there! @GDWtweets
