Mimaki makes its move into latex
Mimaki has revealed that it is moving into the environmentally sustainable wide format printing sector with the launch of two latex wide format printers – the JV400-130LX and JV400-160LX – and its own latex LX Ink technology at FESPA Digital in Barcelona on the 21-24 February 2012. The company’s new LX Ink technology system is an aqueous resin based latex ink technology with eco friendly qualities and zero odours, making Mimaki LX prints ideal for installation in public spaces such as restaurants, schools, hospitals, shops, and office spaces. Mimaki is claiming that its LX latex ink technology delivers significant advantages because both the JV400-130LX and JV400-160LX consume some 40% less energy than ‘other available’ latex systems. This, says Mimaki, is because its LX system benefits from pre, print, and post print heaters that typically run at levels below 60°c in combination with built in drying fans to aid the fast curing of the Mimaki LX ink. The company also says that this opens up the possibilities of a far broader range of environmentally friendly substrates that can be processed with greater dimensional stability. Mike Horsten, marketing manager, Mimaki Europe says: “Mimaki has taken giant steps in developing its own latex ink technology and everything about the new JV400 LX printers has been designed from the ground up. This is not surprising considering that Mimaki is a company born out of engineering excellence, and the reliability and longevity of Mimaki machines that continue to profitably deliver for our customers’ the world over is testament to this." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYL188f-wYA Mimaki says it is also the first manufacturer to deliver a latex solution with a white ink which sits alongside six process colours that deliver what the company is calling a more ‘vibrant’ yield and ‘extended’ colour gamut over ‘other available’ latex print solutions, although it has not supplied technical specifications to substantiate this claim and as such we will have to wait for FESPA before we can see the machines in action and judge the end results for ourselves. In the UK and Ireland, Hybrid Services has been delivering Mimaki wide format solutions as its exclusive distributor since 1996. The company’s national sales manager, John de la Roche says: “Vehicle wrapping specialists are going to love the new Mimaki Latex LX Ink system. Not only does the Mimaki JV400 product line achieve faster print speeds – up to 18m2 per hour at 900 x 900dpi - and higher print quality without compromise, but LX Ink technology eliminates the need for overnight de-gassing of printed vinyls for vehicle wrapping applications, meaning the prints can be immediately applied to the vehicle straight from the printer. Therefore we expect to see a massive uptake of JV400 printers from our already loyal customer base as print service providers around the country begin to recognise the profitability that can be achieved through having faster turnaround speeds than many of their competitors.” www.hybridservices.co.uk www.mimakieurope.com
