Customer Service Tips: First Impressions in Greeting Customers |
“You only have 5 seconds to make a first impression.” You’ve probably heard this adage over and over again. Be it in personal or professional life, people say that first impression is everything. How you approach people will drive your relationship with them from that time and beyond. From your appearance to your manners, everything will have a huge effect on them.
In business, in particular, what people perceive of you during the first meeting will stick with them all throughout your relationship. This is why it’s crucial that the first impression is always good. If a good first impression is created, there’s greater chance to create a positive relationship with clients and customers, one that will endure for a long time. Although a bad impression can be undone, it will take forever to do it. So, it’s best to aim for a good impression so as not to experience bumps along the way.
Often, a good first impression starts in writing. To encourage target customers to visit your store, you send them promotional greeting cards which simply introduce your company to your prospects. They are designed simply so recipients can read and understand your message at a glance. When the initial contact was done, the next step is to encourage prospects to visit your store. Your brochures, catalogs, and flyers will be ideal to use on this task. When your prospects are ready to visit you, the next thing you should prepare for is the face to face encounter.
First meeting
When prospects enter your store, greet them with a smile. Even if you are with another customer, tell them that you will be right with them shortly. The simple gesture of smiling and greeting customers will make them feel at ease and set the comfortable ambiance between the two of you. For the rest of the interaction, the prospect will surely feel good with you even if they entered your store in a bad mood.
Get the name of the prospect
Greeting a prospect with their name will make the interaction more personal but make sure you don’t overdo it. Don’t make it look like you are telling the customer that you know them by continuously repeating their name. Instead of making a good impression this can disappoint them.
Focus on the customer
Make the conversation about the customers and their needs. If you will talk about yourself, do it sparingly. Train yourself to be a good listener. This can mean a huge difference in building a relationship with a customer.
Make eye contact
Be sure to look at the customer’s eye all throughout the conversation. This will help gain their trust and encourage them to become one of your loyal patrons.
Keep smiling
Keeping a friendly atmosphere between you and the customer will help put him at ease with you. This will make it so much easier for you to convince them to purchase the products you offer.
Follow up
Customer relationships don’t end after the store visit. Whether the customer make a purchase or not, it’s important that you show them that you remember them. Send them a thank you card or perhaps a simple greeting card. This will show them that you make extra effort in taking care of your customers. Discounts on greeting cards and thank you cards are available these days so it shouldn’t be a problem for you to produce these cards on a budget.
With these strategies, you can surely build strong customer relationships which will help sustain the growth of your business. Check out promotional greeting cards where you can get discounts on greeting cards and other special offers.
