How to Write a Good Copy Even if you are not a Pro

Write Good Copy!

Often, marketers and business owners ignore the content of their marketing pieces until the last minute. They always put the design first and the content later on. Maybe it’s because they lack the writing skill or they simply want to focus more on how their materials look. However, creating high quality content is integral to the success of any marketing effort.

At the very least, you have to decide on what to say on your printed materials. You can get postcard, business card, or poster ideas on the Internet or from your competitors. There are plenty of choices out there. If you decide to create a website and put up a blog, you have to be more focused in creating interesting, engaging, and compelling content.

But what if you lack writing skills? How do you go about writing your content?

First of all, don’t push yourself, and don’t panic. Copywriting is not rocket science. This problem can be easily fixed. What you simply need is professional help. There are plenty of professional copywriters today who will help you with your dilemma. All you have to do is search for the writer that will understand your need and you will feel comfortable working with.

If you do decide to write your own copy, here a few pointers to help you get the result that you want:

1- Don’t create a copy that talks to everybody. Write like you are talking to only one person. Although you intend to show your copy to a lot of people, each of them will only care about their individual needs when reading your material. This makes it important to write to only one person and use that tone all throughout the copy. In so doing, you will be able to engage more readers and get better response.
2- Don’t aim for the perfect message. There is no such thing. The effectiveness of every message will depend on the readers. If you know who you are talking to it will be easier for you to craft the appropriate message for them. Don’t be scared to change your message from time to time so you can make it more effective and compelling.
3- Write a conversational copy. Write like you are talking to a friend. Use a lively and conversational tone so your message will flow smoothly. Don’t be too formal or else you’ll bore your readers. With a conversational content, you’ll surely get better response since people are able to make a personal connection with you. They understand that you are saying and where you are coming from. You’ll be able to convince them to take the next step in no time at all.
4- Tell readers what to do. What good is a conversational and engaging content if you leave your customers clueless on what you want them to do next? Don’t undervalue your customers. Sure, they are smart individuals, but they won’t easily know what exactly you want them to do. Give them a specific phone number, an email address, and a store address. Put them on your promotional posters, postcards, and brochures. Be sure to give them a clear instruction so you’ll get better results.
